About NDIS
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a transformative initiative in Australia designed to provide comprehensive support and funding for individuals living with disabilities. Launched in 2013, the NDIS offers people with permanent and significant disabilities the resources they need to access a wide range of services and supports, empowering them to live more independent and fulfilling lives.
Eligibility
To access the NDIS, you first need to determine if you are eligible. The main eligibility criteria include:
- Age: You must be under 65 years old when you apply.
- Residency: You need to be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa.
- Disability: You must have a permanent disability that significantly impacts your ability to perform daily activities. The disability can be physical, intellectual, sensory, or psychosocial.
- Functional Impact: Your disability must have a substantial and ongoing impact on your ability to participate in everyday activities, including work, school, and social interactions.
If you meet these criteria, you are eligible to apply for the NDIS.
How to access NDIS?
To access the NDIS, you need to first check if you’re eligible. You must be under 65, an Australian citizen or permanent resident, and have a permanent disability that significantly impacts your daily life. If eligible, you can submit an Access Request to the NDIS, either online, by phone, or through a Local Area Coordinator (LAC). After submitting your request, you’ll need to provide medical evidence of your disability. If approved, you’ll have a planning meeting to discuss your goals and the supports you need. Once your plan is approved, you can start accessing NDIS services and supports that best suit your needs.
